During an upcoming interview with “Dateline”, “TODAY” show weatherman, Al Roker, told medical correspondent Nancy Snyderman that he pooped in his pants just before he was scheduled to do an interview at the White House. Roker said the accident occurred back in 2002, months after he had his gastric bypass.
“When you have a bypass and your bowels [have] been reconstructed, you think you’re pretty safe,” Roker said in video posted by TMZ. “And I probably went off and ate something I wasn’t supposed to. And as I’m walking to the press room … I gotta pass a little gas here. I’m walking by myself. Who’s gonna know? Only a little something extra came out,”
“You pooped in your pants,” Snyderman finished.
“I pooped my pants,” Roker continued. “Not horribly, but enough that I knew.”
While Roker lost 100 pounds from the surgery, he also learned that the gastric bypass left him vulnerable for just such an episode.
“I was panicking, so I got to the restroom off the press room, threw out the underwear and just went commando,” Roker said.
The “Today” show weatherman said he has learned to take more care with his diet since that fateful White House visit.
Roker said the medical term for what happened to him is called, “Dumping Syndrome,” or “rapid gastric emptying,” which occurs when the undigested contents of your stomach move too rapidly into your small bowel.
