Police said people inside a black Range Rover fired gunshots at a Maserati that then crashed on the Las Vegas strip Thursday. Three people, including rapper Kenny Clutch, were killed and several others were injured.
When Clutch, born Kenneth Cherry Jr., was hit, his Maserati ran into the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Flamingo Road, then it collided with a taxi, resulting in a fiery explosion.
The taxi driver, taxi passenger and Clutch all died in the fire. The passenger in the Maserati, and another three people in the resulting pileup suffered injuries, according to Las Vegas Sheriff Douglas Gillespie.
The police department is attempting to piece the occurrences together using surveillance camera video from four of the city’s biggest casinos — Caesars Palace, the Bellagio, Bally’s and the Flamingo.
According to Las Vegas Police Sargent John Sheahan, the Range Rover had an out-of-state dealer plate, tinted windows and large, black rims.
The Range Rover sped from the scene. Police launched a multi-state search for the vehicle. It was described as having dark tinted windows and black rims. It reportedly bore out-of-state dealer license plates.
The Vegas Strip reopened Thursday night. The violence stunned visitors to the famous tourist destination.
“That was insane. I walked out of the hotel this morning and there was like police tape everywhere,” said Jared Bates of Ohio.
Back in 1996, rapper Tupac Shakur was shot and killed just a few hundred yards from Thursday’s crime scene.
